Premier Gold Mines Limited (TSX-PG) is very pleased to announce that Mr. Brian Morris has accepted a position with the Company in the role of Vice-President of Exploration. Brian will guide Premier's US-based operations until year end, but will then replace Tim Twomey as corporate Vice-President of Exploration, as Tim will be retiring from the Corporation.
Brian brings to Premier a strong history in project exploration and development, particularly in the United States. In addition to helping advance the Canadian-based assets, Brian will spearhead Premier's Saddle Project in Nevada and will assist in identifying prospective project opportunities and growing the Company's US property portfolio.
Mr. Morris holds a B.A. in Geology from Humboldt State University in California and has more than 23 years of experience in the mining industry. Most recently, he served as Vice-President and General Manager for Rio Grande Silver, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Hecla Mining Company. In this role, Brian was instrumental in permitting and re-opening the Equity Mine and in completing a re-evaluation of the Bulldog Mine, both located in Colorado. Prior to working for Hecla, Brian was employed at Great Basin Gold Limited in Nevada, most notably as North American Exploration and Business Development Manager between 2008 and 2010, and as Chief Geologist of the high grade Hollister Gold Mine from 2007 to 2008. Between 2002 and 2007, Brian worked at Newmont Mining Corporation's Midas Operations in several senior capacities and also served as a senior geologist at their Nevada District Exploration Group. Prior to this, Brian was a production geologist at the high-grade Meikle Mine for Barrick Gold Corporation.
"The addition of Brian to the Premier team demonstrates a clear commitment to advance our current project base; we have secured a key executive to assist in telegraphing the growth of Premier's US assets." stated Paul Huet, Chief Operating Officer of Premier. "His intimate knowledge of Nevada's geology and extensive experience in project development will help to ensure the Company realizes the full potential of its multiple advanced-stage Projects, including the Saddle Gold Project in the Carlin Trend."
At the end of 2011, Tim Twomey will be retiring from the Company and is expected to continue to work with Premier in a consulting capacity with respect to its Canadian projects. The Company wishes to thank Tim for his generous contribution to Premier and the integral part he has played in the Company's growth and exploration successes.
