Brilliant Commences Drilling at Michikamau Ni-Cu-Co-PGE Project: Labrador, Canada
Vancouver, B.C. – Brilliant Mining Corp (BMC: TSXV) (“Brilliant” or the “Company”) today announced that drilling has commenced at the Michikamau Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-Platinum Group Elements (Ni-Cu-Co-PGE) Project located in Central Labrador, Canada. (See Brilliant Mining news release on June 25, 2007). This year’s program is designed to follow-up on the highly encouraging 2006 exploration program.
Key Point Summary:
- 1,500 m Diamond drilling program is underway for 2007
- Drill test the nickel enriched Sword Far North surface discovery identified at the end of last season
- 2007 target selection based on new 100 line kilometre ground geophysics’ survey
The 2007 exploration program, combining both ground geophysics and drilling, is currently underway. The 1,500 metre Diamond drill program is initially testing the Sword Far North area of the Michikamau Property where 5 grab samples averaging 1.14% Ni, 0.67% Cu and 0.194% Co were collected in 2006 (See Brilliant Mining news release on Aug 30, 2006). This year’s targets have been refined and selected, based on this year’s 100 line kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical program.
The 2007 program will focus on the Juno and Sword geophysical anomaly trends with special emphasis on expanding the observed nickel enrichment within the system as outlined by the 2006 Sword Far North surface discovery.
Michikamau Property
The Michikamau Property (“Property”) covers 488.25km2 within the Michikamau layered gabbro-anorthosite (troctolite) intrusion. This intrusion is considered to be highly favourable for hosting Ni-Cu-Co-PGE mineralization and represents a conceptual and empirical exploration target for Voisey’s Bay type mineralization. Twenty-seven (27) high to medium conductors have been identified on the Property, hosted in troctolite within the interpreted throat “feeder” zone. The Property is located close to existing infrastructure, including the Churchill Falls hydroelectric facility.
The project is supervised by Rob Carpenter, Ph.D., P.Geo., Director of Brilliant. Dr. Carpenter is the qualified person as defined in National Instrument 43-101.
