DIAMOND
DRILLING COMMENCES ON AKIE PROPERTY
Vancouver, B.C. June 27, 2007 Mantle Resources Inc. (TSX Venture: MTS; Frankfurt: A0F7E1) (Mantle or the Company) is pleased to announce that the
2007 diamond drill program has commenced on the Akie
zinc-lead property located in northeastern British
Columbia, approximately 260
kilometers north-northwest of
the town of Mackenzie.
The initial two holes of this program are designed to
further test the zinc-lead bearing Cardiac Creek Zone (CCZ). The first hole is
a 200 meter
step-out to the north from hole A-05-32, completed in 2005, which penetrated
the CCZ, intersecting a true width (TW) of 8.44 meters grading
16.16% zinc and 3.95% lead (20.11% combined zinc+lead).
A second drill rig is currently being positioned on a recently completed pad
located some 600 meters
to the south, to test the continuity of this high grade mineralization between
holes A-05-30 and A-05-33, also drilled in 2005 (17.25 meters TW
grading 18.73% zinc+lead and 8.23 meters TW grading
12.02% combined zinc+lead, respectively). At least
five more pads, with capacity for up to 13 drill holes, will be erected on this
zone during the next several weeks.
In addition, a drill pad to accommodate a third drill
rig has been constructed on the South Zinc soil anomaly, located approximately 3 kilometers
south-southeast of the CCZ, to investigate this previously untested feature.
The anomaly is defined by the +2000 parts per million zinc-in-soil contour, is
some 2 kilometers long by 200 to 500 meters wide and
encompasses samples that have also yielded anomalous lead values. It is
underlain by folded Gunsteel rocks that are
proximal to the contact between the shales of the Gunsteel formation and limestone, limestone breccia and calcareous siltstone of the Road River
Formation, which is the same stratigraphic location
as the CCZ, suggesting the CCZ may also be present in this area.
About the 2007 Drill Program
Rodren Drilling Ltd., of West St. Paul, Manitoba, has been
retained to provide three identical, high capacity drill rigs for the 2007
program. These will be tasked to achieve three objectives: to carry out
sufficient detailed in-fill drilling within and surrounding the area of high
grade CCZ mineralization identified in 2005 and 2006 to permit calculation of a
NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate; step-out drilling to define the extent
of CCZ mineralization and increase the potential tonnage of the deposit; and to
test high priority targets on the Akie property and
elsewhere within the extensive, +180 kilometer long
regional land package controlled by Mantle.
It is anticipated that 20 to 25 holes will be
completed this year for a total of approximately 15,000 meters of
drilling.
About the Akie
Property
The Akie zinc-lead property
is situated within the southern-most part (Kechika
Trough) of the regional extensive Paleozoic Selwyn
Basin, one of the most prolific sedimentary basins in the world for the occurrence
of SEDEX zinc-lead-silver and stratiform barite
deposits.
Drilling on the Akie
property by Inmet Mining Corporation during the
period 1994 to 1996 and Mantle in 2005 and 2006 has identified a significant
body of baritic SEDEX mineralization (Cardiac Creek
Zone) with an average thickness in excess of 12 meters and an average
combined zinc+lead content in excess of 10%. The
deposit is hosted by variably siliceous, fine grained clastic
rocks of the Middle to Late Devonian Gunsteel
formation (Earn Group).
Three similar deposits, Cirque, South Cirque and Driftpile (all owned by Teck
Cominco), with a combined geologic inventory in excess of 65 million tonnes
averaging approximately 10% combined zinc+lead, occur
in Gunsteel rocks to the northwest of the Akie deposit.
