TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ First Solar Inc. (FSLR) on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $94.5 million.
The Tempe, Arizona-based company said it had profit of 93 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, were 52 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 42 cents per share.
The largest U.S. solar company posted revenue of $896.2 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $746.3 million.
First Solar expects full-year earnings to be $3.30 to $3.60 per share, with revenue in the range of $3.5 billion to $3.6 billion.
First Solar shares have fallen slightly since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed roughly 2 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $44.52, a decrease of 29 percent in the last 12 months.
