DUMONT NICKEL INC. (DNI:TSX-Ven, DG7:FSE) is pleased to announce that it has engaged the Alberta Research Council to conduct a baseline study of select samples from its polymetallic black shales to determine suitability of micro-organisms present in the shales to bioleaching. The current study is the first of several, and forms an integral component of DUMONT's efforts to investigate bioleaching options for extraction of metals from its polymetallic black shales.

 

The Alberta Research Council brings considerable expertise to the project, as it is involved in current research studying and characterizing micro-organism populations elsewhere in Alberta, and is part of a research consortium, studying micro-organic diversity in Alberta oil sands and heavy oil.

 

In response to queries in connection with DUMONT's press release of October 14, 2009, which announced "Launch of Carbon Capture And Sequestration Study For Its Alberta Polymetallic Black Shales", DUMONT offers the following to clarify certain terminology included in the release: The narrative surrounding carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to mitigate CO2 emissions pertains to "capture" of CO2 emissions at their source (eg: at the smokestack) and injection of the pressurized CO2 to "store" it in suitable geologic reservoirs. In contrast, technologies relating to CO2 sequestration by converting it to minerals entail infusion of CO2, under pressurized or ambient conditions, into crushed mineral matter and concern themselves with optimizing mineral forming chemical reactions to accelerate the rate of CO2 "capture" by the mineral matter to enhance its uptake and ultimate permanent sequestration as stable minerals.

 

DUMONT's announced carbon capture and sequestration R&D work focuses entirely on assessing the potential of its polymetallic black shales as geologic hosts for sequestration of CO2 by converting or "capturing" it into mineral matter. DUMONT is not involved in CCS research nor has it any industrial CO2 emissions. In the foregoing regard, the announced R&D study which is being carried out by the Alberta Research Council is a stage-1 study intended to collect baseline information through laboratory tests intended to characterize physical and chemical properties of the shales to evaluate their capacity to "capture" and sequester CO2 via mineral processes.

 

DUMONT continues to focus its efforts on its polymetallic black shale Properties in Alberta, and on its carried interest in the recent Diamond discovery from its Attawapiskat Property, Ontario.
