New Discoveries: Hewitt-Van Roi Project, Slocan Camp,
Southeastern British Columbia
=======================================================================
Exploration and geological mapping by Klondike Silver Corp. on their
wholly owned Hewitt-Van Roi property at the southern end of the Slocan
Silver camp has discovered new showings of zinc-lead-silver vein
mineralization. One occurrence, comprising a thin, massive sphalerite
vein, is within an approximate 1 meter thick quartz breccia that trends
parallel to the main veins of the Slocan camp. It is possible that the
vein is a surface expression of the underground lode zone that was
mined at the Van Roi property, which produced more than 2.78 million
ounces (59 million grams) of silver, 8,091 tonnes lead and 7,600 tonnes
zinc. A second vein discovery in the area, near the historical "CDO"
showing, comprises massive galena, sphalerite and pyrite, also within a
quartz breccia vein structure. Analyses of grab samples from the CDO
showing, reported in BC Assessment Report 19463 returned values up to
51 oz/t Ag, 26.4% Pb, and 0.78% Zn. Follow-up evaluation and analyses
of these two new showings are underway.
A soil grid on the western part of the Hewitt-Van Roi property is now
complete, and sampling has begun on the eastern grid. As well, a
ground geophysical program, following up on airborne anomalies, has
begun. This survey should help define structures that appear to be
related to the main mineralizing trends in the camp.
Geological mapping of the Hewitt-Van Roi property, at a scale of
1:5,000, is expected to be completed within a few weeks by geologist M.
Seabrook. Assays on the CDO (which yielded 0.16 oz/t Au, 51 oz/t Ag,
26.4% Pb, 0.78% Zn, and 0.13% Cu) are given in ARIS Assessment Report
19463 and have helped define trends of some of the major structures,
and the controls of mineralization. Prospectors have been contracted
to further prospect the area, and to follow up on both geophysical and
soil geochemical anomalies. This work should continue into August with
the goal of discovering both new mineralization and extensions of past
workings at both the Hewitt and Van Roi properties.
