NEW DISCOVERY OF HIGH GRADE
GOLD 2305 g/t (67.22 oz/t) ON NORTHERN GOLD MINING'S KIRANA
PROPERTY
Toronto, Ontario (July 22, 2008): Northern Gold Mining Inc. (TSX-V NGM) is pleased to
announce the discovery of a promising, previously unknown zone of
mineralization containing areas assaying high grades of gold (up to
2305.12 g/t, or 67.22 oz/ton) and local coarse, visible gold at its Kirana
Project. The Kirana Project is the company's most recently acquired
ground and the area containing the new gold bearing zone lies in Teck
Township, Ontario, approximately five kilometers northeast of the
historic Kirkland Lake gold camp. Official production from the
Kirkland Lake camp is more than 24 million ounces of gold from numerous
mines since 1910, many of them high grade deposits. Northern Gold
Mining's Kirana Project comprises a main group of 86 claim units, 4
patent claim blocks and an additional, isolated block of 8 more claim
units just south of the main group. The main claim group contains much prospective
ground as it covers 6.2 kilometers of the interpreted extent of the
Kirana Break.
The
company began its exploration of the Kirana Project in the late fall of
2007, with stripping of overburden to expose several new areas of
bedrock in the general area of some old workings. Geological
mapping and sampling over two such previously unexposed areas took
place in early summer of 2008, taking advantage of the newly washed
surfaces. Some occurrences of visible gold were noted within
recognizable structural zones of altered rock. This led to a first
phase of rigorous sampling that has now confirmed the presence of
gold. Assaying of samples taken from bedrock returned values of
gold as high as 2305.12 g/t (67.22 oz/ton). Longer more
systematic chip/channel sampling resulted in lower gold values, but
confirmed the lateral extent of the mineralization.
Samples
were variously collected from single points and along sampling lines up
to 6 metres long and cutting across mineralized areas by means of chip
and channel sampling over both the stripped areas. The two
stripped areas are more than 40 metres apart and it has yet to be
determined if they are two parts of the same mineralized zone or two
entirely separate zones.
On the
eastern stripping area (the Matheson Zone) an approximately 5 metre
wide strong shear zone, striking 060? to 080?, appears to control very
high grade gold mineralization. 20 samples collected over a 12 metre
strike length along the shear returned assays as high as 2305.12 g/t Au
(67.22 oz/ton) with coarse visible gold observed at various locations
within the Matheson Zone. The strong shear apparently controlling the
mineralization is possibly the eastern extension of the Kirana Break.
Northern Gold's Kirana property covers 6.2 kms of the Kirana Break
strike length to the east of the new discovery area.

On the
western stripping area (the Hillside Zone) a pervasive quartz- iron
carbonate alteration and brecciation over the approximately 16 x 8
metre stripped area has returned assays as high as 40.56 g/t (1.18
oz/ton) from various locations within the zone. The control and
thicknesses of this mineralization as well as its relationship to the
apparently shear controlled high-grade gold mineralization on the
Matheson Zone have yet to be determined.

Ken
Rattee, VP Exploration, stated that "this new discovery is very
exciting, not only because of the nature and size of the area covered
by the two newly stripped, gold-bearing structural zones but because it
holds great promise for significant strike extension, being controlled
by such a prominent structure."
Northern
Gold is now commencing an expanded stripping program to gain better
understanding of the extent and character of the newly discovered zone
through mapping and more systematic sampling, to be followed by diamond
drilling to ascertain the characteristics and potential of this new
discovery in the third dimension. A comprehensive exploration program
of the immediate area surrounding the discovery area is being
formulated.
Northern
Gold Mining follows certain quality assurance and control (QA/QC)
procedures to ensure sampling and analysis of all exploration work is conducted
in accordance with the best possible practices.. The rock samples
collected were sent to the ISO 9001:2000 certified Polymet Laboratories
in Cobalt, Ontario
where samples were analyzed for gold using fire assaying techniques. As
part of its QA/QC work, the Company submits blanks and standards
approximately every 50 samples to check for possible analytical error.
Approximately 5% of sample rejects and/or pulps are sent to different
labs for check assaying.
Results of this
sampling program and the sampling procedures have been reviewed by R.V.
Zalnieriunas P.Geo. an independent consulting geologist who is the
"Qualified Person" as defined by NI 43-101 for this project.
