RESULTS OF KALGOORLIE WEST PROJECT AIRCORE DRILLING PROGRAM
SUMMARY
Carrick Gold Ltd (?Carrick? or ?the Company?) is pleased to announce that it has received results from a first pass aircore drilling program on its recently acquired Kalgoorlie West Project.
The aircore drilling program comprised 120 holes for approximately 6,500m of drilling over five separate sub-project areas, covering approximately 90km2, in under-explored areas within well endowed gold districts, primarily around the Kalgoorlie-Mt Pleasant-Kundana mining centres (Figure 1).
The drilling program returned encouraging gold mineralisation from four of the five sub-project areas.
Results included:
From Rose Channel
? KWAC 023: 1m @ 2.85g/t Au from 60m at end of hole.
From Grants Patch
? KWAC 029: 4m @ 0.50g/t Au from 12m.
From Ora Banda South
? KWAC 055: 5m @ 1.54g/t Au from 116m at end of hole.
? KWAC 056: 1m @ 2.00 g/t Au from 68m at end of hole.
From Zuleika Shear
? KWAC 095 - 2m @ 1.86g/t Au from 56m at end of hole.
RESULTS OF AIRCORE DRILLING PROGRAM
The aircore drilling program provided first pass drill testing of the following targets:
Rose Channel Project
The Rose Channel Project lies midway between the Mt Pleasant and the Paddington Mining Centres. The project covers an untested section of the well gold mineralized Roe Palaeochannel. The Roe Palaeochannel is associated within a number of significant supergene gold deposits located to the west of the project area, including the Rose, Rose East and Rose Dam deposits. The gold mineralisation in all of these deposits comprises supergene mineralisation in weathered bedrock directly beneath the channel.
A total of 24 aircore holes (KWAC001 ? 024) were drilled on three north-south traverses. The traverses were spaced 240m apart with vertical holes drilled at 160m spaced intervals along the traverses.
The drilling intersected a variable thickness of transported cover associated with the Roe Palaeochannel overlying predominantly weathered basalt and felsic to granitic porphyries. Anomalous gold mineralisation was returned from several holes, with the most significant result being 1m @ 2.85g/t Au from 60m at end of hole in KWAC 023. The gold mineralisation in KWAC 023 is associated with a quartz veined, sericite altered felsic to granitic porphyry at end of hole.
A follow program of infill aircore drilling is planned to assess the extent and the significance of the mineralisation intersected in KWAC023.
Anomalous gold results from the aircore drilling are presented in Table 1.
Grants Patch Project
The Grants Patch Project is located within the Grants Patch gold mining centre and overlies a structurally complicated zone near the interpreted base of the regionally well gold mineralised Mt Pleasant Sill.
The project covers two sub-parallel and well defined lines of historical gold workings covering several hundred metres of strike. The workings have been developed on broadly north-south striking zones of ferruginous quartz veining, shearing and alteration in deeply weathered mafic-ultramafic rocks.
A total of 10 aircore holes (KWAC25 ? 034) were drilled on three east west traverses. The traverses were spaced between 60m to 100m apart with angle holes drilled at mostly 40m spaced intervals along the traverses..
Several drill holes returned anomalous gold mineralisation from variably quartz veined and sheared weathered basalt and ultramafics or as supergene mineralisation associated with the base of weathering.
The best result was 4m @ 0.50g/t Au from 12m down hole in KWAC 029.
Anomalous gold results from the aircore drilling are presented in Table 1.
Ora Banda South Project
The Ora Banda South Project comprises seven semi-contiguous prospecting licences covering 1,317 hectares, located immediately south of the Ora Banda gold mining centre. The project area straddles a portion of the northwest trending contact between the Kurrawang conglomerates in the south west and a package of intermediate and felsic volcanics/volcaniclastics in the north east.
Historical auger soil geochemistry programs in the southern part of the project area have successfully delineated a distinct zone of anomalous gold geochemistry within the western portion of the project area. The gold anomaly (>10ppb Au, peak 54ppb Au) trends north westerly over a strike length in excess of 4km and broadly parallels the interpreted regional lithological trends.
Recent auger soil sampling program in the northern part of the project area also defined coherent 1 km long northnorthwest trending gold in auger soil anomaly (>10ppb Au, peak 59ppb Au).
A first pass aircore drilling program was undertaken to test for gold mineralisation associated with the northern and southern gold in soil anomalies. Thirty one aircore holes (KWAC 035 ? 065) were drilled a six separate east west traverses to provide a first pass test of the soil anomalies. The traverses were spaced between 320m to 640m apart, with holes spaced between 80m and 160m apart along the traverses.
Several drill holes returned anomalous gold results with the best results returned from holes KWAC 055 and KWAC 056 from testing of the southern gold in soil anomaly. These drill holes returned the following intersections:
KWAC 055 ? 5m @ 1.54g/t Au from 116m down hole associated with a strongly foliated, carbonate-silica altered, quartzsulphide veined felsic volcanic/volcaniclastic.
KWAC 056 ? 1m @ 2.00 g/t Au from 68m down hole associated with a moderately weathered, strongly iron oxide stained felsic volcanic/volcaniclastic.
The results from holes KWAC 055 and KWAC 056 are considered encouraging as they are both bottom of drill hole intersections from broad spaced first pass drilling.
A follow up program of infill and extensional aircore drilling is planned to assess the extent and the significance of the mineralisation intersected in KWAC 055 and KWAC 056.
Anomalous gold results from the aircore drilling are presented in Table 1 and a drilling summary plan is presented in Figure 2.
Zuleika Shear Project
A first pass aircore drill program (35 holes , KWAC 066 ? 100) was undertaken to test a coherent 2.2km long north-west trending gold in soil anomaly (>20ppb, peak 109ppb Au) along the western side of tenements.
The aircore drilling returned several zones of anomalous gold mineralisation, predominantly at bottom of hole, associated with partially weathered polymitic conglomerate.
The best result was 2m @ 1.86g/t Au from 56m down hole in KWAC 095 at end of hole.
Anomalous gold results from the aircore drilling are presented in Table 1 and a drilling summary plan is presented in Figure 3.
Kundana North Project
A program of aircore drilling (20 holes, KWAC 101 ? 120) was completed to test for mineralisation associated with the gabbro ? sediment contact at the Powder Blanc Prospect.
The drilling successfully defined the gabbro ? sediment contact, but failed to return any significant gold mineralisation.
Table 1 ? Anomalous Gold Results (>0.10g/t Au) from Aircore Drilling Program ? Kalgoorlie West Project
Notes
? Drill hole collar positions determined by hand held GPS receiver coordinates provided in MGDA 94-51 datum.
? Samples were collected as 4m down hole composite intervals, except at bottom of hole where composite intervals vary from 1m through to 4m down hole intervals. Length weighted average grade reported.
? Intercepts are down-hole metres. There is insufficient information at present to make an estimation of the true width of mineralisation encountered.
? All samples were assayed by Kalgoorlie Assay Laboratory using 40g Aqua Regia Digest with ICPMS finish with a 0.001g/t lower detection limit.
The company will now plan a follow-up drilling program to test to extent and significance of the gold mineralisation defined to date.
