(The following is an example of notable trading cited on optionMONSTER's InsideOptions Pro service yesterday.)
Traders apparently think that Anadarko Petroleum is going places in a hurry.
optionMONSTER's Heat Seeker program yesterday detected the purchase of 4,300 Weekly 68 calls expiring on Nov. 6 for $1.29 to $1.50. Volume was more than 100 times previous open interest at the strike.
Long call s lock in the price where investors can buy shares, allowing them to profit from a rally with limited capital at risk. Their relatively short expiration indicates that they expect a move sooner rather than later. The bullish trades came one session after a big surge in crude oil. (See our Education section)
APC rose 3.1 percent to $67.58 yesterday and is trying to bounce above the three-year low where it bounced a month ago. Quarterly results on Tuesday were mixed, with profit beating consensus but revenue falling short.
Total option volume was 5 times greater than average in the session, with calls outnumbering puts by more than 10 to 1.
