St. Joseph Avenue transmission project to enhance reliability of electric service
Evansville, Ind. - In an effort to enhance system reliability and provide for additional electric load growth, Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) is upgrading its existing system which consists of distribution poles serving electric load along St. Joseph Avenue. The distribution poles will be replaced with transmission grade poles and the resulting transmission circuit will make a loop through the St. Wendell and Mohr Road substations. In the event of an outage at one substation, electricity can be rerouted through the other substation, restoring power to the region very quickly. In addition, the current single phase electric system will be upgraded to a 3-phase system to support growth in the area. Collectively, these efforts will greatly improve reliability to those served by this portion of Vectren's system.
"Electric system reliability continues to be crucial in today's environment, and outages can result in significant economic impacts and public inconveniences," said Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - South. "Being able to reroute power through two substations will provide additional reliability and reduce the duration and amount of electric outages."
Crews will begin work next week with flaggers directing traffic on N. St. Joseph Avenue. Tree work will continue for at least six weeks, and lane closures and traffic delays are expected as construction gets underway.
