Vectren releases corporate sustainability report
Evansville, Ind. - Vectren Corporation (NYSE: VVC) has released its corporate sustainability report, Sustainability in Practice, which illustrates the company's commitment to the environment and the communities it serves, as well as customers, employees and investors.
For the first time Vectren's annual sustainability report has received C-level certification by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). GRI is a non-profit organization that promotes economic sustainability. It produces one of the world's most prevalent standards for sustainability reporting. This certification is achieved by voluntarily reporting information on company operations that go beyond what is mandatory by law. Certification creates shared value, demonstrates Vectren's pledge to sustainability and denotes transparency in operations. The C-level certification is indicative of the number of performance indicators related to social, economic and environmental factors which Vectren's report contains.
"GRI Certification sends the message that Vectren is keenly aware of the changing economic, social and environmental landscape and potential impacts on future generations," said Vectren Chairman, President and CEO Carl Chapman. "This report illustrates that sustainability is a cornerstone to Vectren operations, laying the foundation to solid, sustainable growth and longevity."
The report profiles Vectren's efforts to grow its diversified businesses in economically, environmentally and socially sustainable ways by detailing recent upgrades in pipeline infrastructure, programs to improve the energy efficiency of customers' homes and businesses, as well as efforts to revitalize communities.
"Our goal is to set a new sustainable precedent in the communities we serve," said Chapman. "From procurement practices to power generation, we incorporate sustainability principles into the core of our operations."
Details regarding the company's customer service enhancements, small business engagement and facilities upgrades are also included in the report.
"Our sustainability practices embody our company goals and initiatives," said Angila Retherford, Vectren's vice president of environmental affairs and corporate sustainability. "We will continue to strive to be a leader in conservation; with a focus on environmental stewardship; and believe these efforts toward sustainable growth will continue to be an important contributor to long-term corporate performance."
