Vedanta Conducts Safety Workshop to Drive Awareness
PANAJI, January 29, 2016 : Vedanta - Sesa Goa Iron Ore is committed to safety and gives prime importance to this value in its operations. Aligned with this objective the organization today conducted a workshop on Safety at its Head Office. Themed: "Journey to Zero Harm" the workshop was attended by over 80 participants comprising the company employees, workmen representatives which included contractors and service providers.
Mr. Kishore Kumar - CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore kicked off the session with a brief welcome address. A context setting to the workshop was done by Mr. A. K Rai - Chief Technical Advisor.
The entire session was filled with learnings and case studies from the various speakers who addressed the participants as part of this exclusive workshop. The key speakers included, Mr. Vivek Marathe - Inspector of Factories & Boilers who in his lecture enlightened the participants about various ways of working on safety check lists and ticking them off to practice safety. He stressed on the importance of return on training investment and accountability in the workforce of every sphere of activity in order to have a safe work culture.
Mr. Dharmesh Angle - Dy. Superintendent of Police North (Traffic) enlightened the gathering on road safety, the precautions that need to be taken and also elucidated the reasons for the rise of accidents on the streets of Goa. He emphasized that citizens should necessarily imbibe a spirit of practicing safety and follow the rules of the road which are meant for their good and well-being.
Mr. Phillip Turner - Head Safety & Occupational Health - Vedanta Group presented many case studies on how and why accidents are caused. His presentation also took the audience through a series of improved measures that can be practiced in our daily walks of life if safety is made a habit. Mr. Kiran Kumar - General Manager - Sustainability - Vedanta Group briefed the participants on safety process improvements in the mining operations and shared best practices from the other verticals of the business.
The post lunch session was one of focus groups where the participants from the various business units of the company were asked to present the way forward on practicing a safe work culture and inculcating it as a value system.
The session saw enthusiastic participation from all who attended and also engaged in interactive discussions by way of question answer sessions.
