BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Walter Energy Inc. (WLT) on Tuesday reported a loss of $128.1 million in its fourth quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had a loss of $1.83. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.97 per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.60 per share.
The metallurgical coal producer posted revenue of $285.6 million in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Analysts expected $330 million, according to Zacks.
For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $470.6 million, or $7.10 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.41 billion.
The company's shares closed at $1.09. A year ago, they were trading at $11.
