GoldMoney research director Alasdair Macleod dismisses speculation that gold has been caught up by commodity financing deals in China. Gold is tightly regulated by the Chinese government, Macleod writes, and it's unlikely that the country's "shadow banking system" would be able to play so fast and loose with it.
