Chaos continues to unfold in Turkey, which has been ONE of the key stories
over this last weekend. News like this used to come once in a blue moon, but
sadly, we are hit from so many different directions that it is becoming more
and more common.
Regardless, it is having major ramifications behind the political scenes;
for Turkey is no simple random country and it cannot be easily dismissed what
is happening there.
One of the founding members of the United Nations, Turkey is supposed to
uphold security and balance in the world. Unfortunately, as we have seen
since this weekend, anything but this is occurring.
President Erdogan is engaging in a complete and utter cleaning of the
slate within the country. Since the "failed coup" this weekend,
thousands have been rounded up and arrested. This includes military
officials, judges, politicians, and now in the latest wave, school
teachers!
A purge such as this is nothing other than a complete and utter move
towards a dictatorship and shows just how easily an established country can
slip into complete and utter anarchy within a short period of time.
Explosions are being reported across the capital, which would have us
believe that the infighting is far from over, and is being downplayed by the
current government officials who are loyal to Erdogan. They would have us
believe that they are in the right. Perhaps they are, or perhaps not.
Many in the West all too easily dismiss this type of news and say
"this would never happen here". Sadly, they are foolish and they
are wrong. The government knows one thing and one thing only, power. They
will do everything they can to maintain this power and only a thin line
exists between dictatorship and democracy in a time of turmoil.
Dangerous times are coming. The world, as I have written many times
recently, is in a dangerous time period. Things could either quickly fall
apart in our modern society, or we can turn this thing around.
Yet, it is not going to happen overnight and not without much effort from
those of us that value freedom and liberty. The sleeping masses are content
to turn their brains off and ignore the alarm bells ringing in their ears.
Fortunately, we are not and will continue to monitor, be vigilant, and stand
guard against tyranny, which as seen in the recent events in Turkey, is never
far away.
