This video has been popping up all over the internet in recent days and for good reason – it’s one of the most amazing accounts of what the recent tsunami looked like from someone who, for whatever reason, didn’t seem to fear for their personal safety, continuing to film after it became clear (to me at least) that putting the camera down might be a better idea.

Early in the video, be sure to note the water level around that tan building with the green roof as a reference for later on. We’ve learned a lot about tsunamis in recent years – they’re not a tall thin wave but, rather, a massive, temporary rise in the sea level – and videos like this will be watched in classrooms all around the world for decades to come.
