Times of great crisis in history are usually the crucible from which
nations form new leaders and new visions. Such leaders seem to suddenly
appear often out of nowhere to alter the national path pursued, to cleanse
the old ways, and stake out a saner, more just means of living and governing.
Is it God, destiny, fate that are somehow at work to bring about a saving
metamorphosis in which some visionary soul rises to the occasion to stir the
passions of the people and bring about a righting of the ship? Whatever the
force may be, our country is in dire need of its power today.
If such a force is at work in history, I pray that it is exerting some
heady pressure upon the one politician in Washington who has never been a
politician Congressman Ron Paul who has always been a throwback to the
original "citizen statesman" that the Founders promoted as the
ideal type of leader for the Republic they had formed.
It is said that the Founders modeled their "citizen statesman"
after the example of Cincinnatus of Rome. In the early days of the Roman
Republic around 450 BC, Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus was a private farmer who
left his plough to lead his countrymen in battle against enemy invaders, and
then returned to his pastoral life, only to be called again later to lead the
Republic as Consul in a time of political crisis. Cincinnatus has, thus, been
handed down over the centuries as a prime example of the citizen statesman
who does not seek office and political power as a lifetime career, but gives
service to his country by his leadership when called.
Ron Paul is our modern day Cincinnatus. He serves the Republic that the
Founding Fathers gave us, rather than the unlimited Democracy into which the
socialists have transformed us. In a world that no longer values the guiding
benevolence of the Constitution, Ron Paul makes it his revered compass. In a
Washington dominated by unctuous Machiavellians who build their lives upon
Faustian bargains and ruthless careerism, Ron Paul stands like a majestic oak
of clarity and sanity in defense of the American ideal. His watchword is
"steadfast adherence to principle." Compromise if need be on the
means of implementation; but never on the principle itself. Never on the
Constitution. Never on the rights of man.
"The Feds want us to be hamsters on a treadmill, says Paul, working
hard, all day long, to pay high taxes, but otherwise entirely docile and
controlled. The huge, expensive, and out-of-control leviathan that we call
the Federal Government wants to run every single aspect of our lives. I'm in
Congress to cut the government: its taxes, its bureaucrats, its spending, and
every single unconstitutional action it takes."
The beautiful thing about Ron Paul is that he has the mettle to back up
his campaign rhetoric with action. The man fulfills his promises. Imagine
that! In this day and age, a politician who does precisely what he says he
will do! When big government advocates smear him as a "right-wing
extremist," Paul calmly replies, "Isn't that what George III called
Thomas Jefferson?" You can almost hear an ingenuous Jimmy Stewart
talking to reporters on the Capitol steps in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.
Frank Capra would have loved Ron Paul.
The Famous Speech
On July 10, 2003, Dr. Paul gave perhaps the most important speech of his political life, Neo-Conned,
to the House of Representatives. "The modern-day, limited-government
movement has been co-opted," he stated in his opening. "The
conservatives have failed in their effort to shrink the size of government.
There has not been, nor will there soon be, a conservative revolution in
Washington. Political party control of the federal government has changed,
but the inexorable growth in the size and scope of government has continued
unabated."
Following this opening salvo, the patriot doctor proceeded to put forth a
blistering expose of the political-intellectual movement called
"neoconservatism," its sinister goals, its former socialist
members, and how it has taken over Washington politics along with Big Media
to further the desecration of the Constitution and the vision of a free and
ordered Republic.
We have come to our present deteriorated state of affairs, said Paul,
"because ideas...have consequences. Bad ideas have bad consequences, and
even the best of intentions have unintended consequences."
"Spending, borrowing and printing money cannot be the road to
prosperity, he warned. It's never worked anytime throughout history. A
point is always reached where government planning, spending and inflation run
out of steam
.Both sides of the political spectrum must one day realize that
limitless government intrusion in the economy, in our personal lives, and in
the affairs of other nations cannot serve the best interests of America. This
is not a conservative problem, nor is it a liberal problem it's a
government intrusion problem that comes from both groups." [emphasis

Powerful words from a bold contrarian to a corrupt and conformist
Congress.
What Needs to be Done
Let this be an open plea to Congressman Ron Paul. The past 35 years of
your life have resulted in a profound and accomplished career of service to
the noblest ideals of Western civilization. Yet as great as those years have
been, I believe they are but a prologue to your real destiny. I believe the
force working through history, that I spoke of earlier in this article, has
been preparing you for the final denouement of your real destiny. And that is
to lead a great, enduring crusade to reinstill the principles of the Founding
Fathers into the public forum. It will be a dramatic first step toward
salvation of the Republic in these initial tumultuous decades of the 21st
century.
This dramatic first step is for you to launch a viable independent
challenge to the tyrannical Demopublican establishment in 2012 if you fail to
gain the GOP nomination. No man is better suited for this endeavor than you.
Ross Perot saw the need for such a challenge in 1992, but unfortunately he did
not understand the necessity to carve out a distinctly different political
vision than that of the Demopublicans. Thus he merely cloned the Democrats
and Republicans, and his effort died.
You, Dr. Paul, will be different. You will be carrying the torch of true
freedom, the wisdom of the Founders, and the monumental import of Americas
role in human history. A Rasmussen poll on September 20, 2011 tells us that 49% of
American voters feel that neither party in Congress represents the people.
In a Miami Herald poll on September 29, 2011, you match up in
Florida to Barack Obama with 44% to his 45%. Also in the same poll, you lead
Obama among Independent voters by 52% to 37%. Granted, these numbers are for
Florida, but the national polls will undoubtedly indicate similar support for
you "among the general populace" as compared to "among
Republicans."
This is the remarkable political statistic of our nation today that shows
you with more appeal to America in general than to Republicans in particular.
You continue to draw a consistent 12% among Republicans, which are basically
Pat Buchanan conservatives in the GOP who agree with your common sense
interpretation of todays tragic foreign policy problems. But that is about
all you are ever going to draw from GOP enthusiasts who have always sided
with the neocon foreign policy goals of benevolent global hegemony. The great
majority of Republicans line up with Gingrich, Santorum, Kristol, Perle,
Cheney, and Bush when it comes to fashioning foreign policy. This means they
not only oppose you, they detest you. Witness the Tea Party Nations
relentless attacks upon you as a traitor and a fool. This pretty much negates
any hope of you ever gaining the Republican Party nomination.
But if you take your 12% Buchanan conservatives and launch an Independent
crusade for the Presidency, you will pick up about 15% from Independent voters
who do not vote in GOP primaries. This gives you 27% in national polls. All
that is needed for you to win the Presidency in a three-man race is 38%. That
means you would need only to pick up 11% from disenchanted Democrats, which
could be done with a stirring campaign and a dramatic sweep into the National
TV Presidential Debates next Fall. Such a dramatic sweep could be driven home
to American voters with two trenchant half-hour lectures on national TV the
night before each of your debate performances in the manner of Ross Perot in
1992. Only this time you will be telling the American people about how the
Demopublicans are using the Federal Reserve and the Income Tax to rob us of
our freedom, our rights, and our money. You will not clone yourself to the
Demopublicans like Ross did. You will offer to America a REAL choice.
Unify the Divergent Factions
Dr. Paul, if you fail to gain the 2012 GOP nomination, millions of us
throughout the hinterland urge you to continue your revolution with an
Independent run. Cincinnatus helped to save the Roman Republic in his day.
You are his modern likeness. Only you can unify the divergent factions in the
freedom movement to make it a cohesive power strong enough to actually have
an impact. We, who have been your loyal supporters over the years, urge you
to rise to this occasion.
The stirring words of the patriot William Wallace come always to mind in
times like these: "What will you do for freedom? Will you fight?"
Such was his trumpet call to rally his followers for battle with the dreaded
English juggernaut seven centuries ago. Back and forth in front of his
troops, Wallace rode on his prancing horse exhorting a reluctant army of
Scottish rebels until they rose up to drive the English from their land.
"What will you do for freedom? Will you fight," he repeatedly
asked?
Your life's work, Dr. Paul, has been in essence the posing of those two
questions to all Americans. I write to you today, to tell you we are ready
for the fight. Yes, we need you to fight for the GOP nomination. But also, we
need you to prepare for the inevitable. The GOP long ago sold out to big
government. They will never nominate you. But America will open her arms to
you if you challenge this horrid monopolistic system that the Republicans and
Democrats have established.
Such a challenge can then be used as the launching pad to forge a REAL
freedom party movement of small government for 2016 and beyond, which could
become a genuine second political party with the Democrats and Republicans
merging into what they so obviously are: the party of leviathan. This new
freedom party would do to the Republicans what the Republicans did to the
Whigs in 1854.
So even if you dont make it into the White House in 2012, you would make
it into the history books as a modern day Cincinnatus who, in time of great
peril, rose heroically to save his country. Your destiny would have been
fulfilled. Historys guiding force would have been directed to restoring
freedom and sanity to the America we know and love so fervently.
You would be leaving a legacy of powerful, far-reaching consequences.
Truth, the grandest goal of mankind, would record you as one of its great
paladins. What a magnificent conclusion to your distinguished career.
