A reader of mine recently posed a question in response to my latest post about the increasing propaganda and rhetoric coming from the United States regarding Syria. The Peak Oil Poet asked a very valid question. Why Syria? First, I suggest you read my first post on this subject detailing the escalation of recent conflict in the region.

My only theory is this…(and it is only a theory)

Syria remains the only real nation left as an official “non ally” of the United States to the west of Iran. Look at the following map. I’ve tried to shade in the ally countries with yellow but then decided to just border them in red. Note that Syria sticks out like a sore thumb. Sure there are other smaller nations and of course the lingering squabbling in Gaza that have some leaders angered with the United States, those smaller hotspots are manageable. But look at the area that I bordered with red. Notice that Syria remains the only un-co-operative nation left to topple and make one of the United States’ puppet democracies. If the United States can take Syria then it has pretty much taken the entire western area of the middle-east. Considering a massive presence still in Afghanistan and a Pakistani government that can be bought, it is fair to suggest that if Syria can be taken then the United States has cornered Iran from all areas pretty much isolating them from any middle eastern allies. This is purely my own speculation of course but it makes sense in the bigger picture of how the United States plans on taking the middle east with the help of Israel and controlling the oil from it.

We will continue to hear horror stories of how Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is committing atrocities and killing his own people while at the same time concealing weapons of mass destruction, the same script and basis for going to war in Iraq.

If you still don’t believe it’s about controlling the oil then listen to how US General Wesley Clark talks openly about the memo he saw when Bush was president.
