>Why Christians Should Not Recite the Pledge of Allegiance  - Charleston Voice -
The reason given here for not reciting the PoA is 'partially' correct. There is , indeed, little evidence that the US of A is a nation "under God". There are, however better reasons for a "Christian" not to recite the PoA.
1) It borders on Idolatry. You are promising to be loyal to a piece of cloth.
2) It is a "loyalty oath. This means that you are promising to be a good citizen of the USA, without even defining what that might mean. Can
this be defined? It is the same problem I have, as a Quaker, when I must testify in court (which I had to do as a county employee on more than one occasion) because "swearing" to do something (tell the truth, be a good citizen) because it implies more than one type of truth. See Mathew 5:33 and James 5:12.
3) It has a questionable history. As stated in the article, the original "salute" was the same one employed by the German National Socialist Party (Nazi) and the Roman empire. This is dempcracy?
4) Nothing in the PoA will make anyone a better citizen for saying it. Learning the US Constitution and Declaration of Independance are much better ways. Better to recite them, or the Gettysburg Address than the so called PoA.

There are three holidays that cause otherwise sound-in-the-faith evangelical, conservative, and fundamentalist Christians to lose their religion. I am referring to Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Vet... Read More
