Beginning of the headline :« Man Devil », tel fut le surnom donné ironiquement à cet écrivain d’origine française, né en 1670 à Rotterdam. Ses parents étaient huguenots et s’étaient réfugiés en Hollande, fuyant les persécutions religieuses. Par la suite, Mandeville s’installa comme médecin à Londres et y écrivit ses livres en anglais.
