>Will World Governments Confiscate Gold?  - Dan Popescu - GoldBroker
It is true that a law was passed to compel American citizens to turn in their gold; however according to actual government reports the percentage of private gold turned in was only approximately 20%. If, as you say, the balance held by the US government was 8998 tonnes in 1935 after the confiscation and 6358 tonnes before the law was passed, then the amount acquired as a result of the confiscation was 2640 tonnes. Following along, this would leave American citizens holding 8560 tonnes. Additionally they have acquired an enormous amount since legalization. How much is anybody's guess, but my own after fifty years of study of gold and it's markets is that they have acquired approximately one third an ounce per person in the country or about 3500 tonnes. If this is anywhere accurate, it means that US citizens now have 12060 tonnes or about 45% more than is held by the US government (FED)--(8300) tonnes. World stocks are estimated to be around 170,000 tonnes, giving the US 8300 tonnes and it's citizens 12060 tonnes for a total of 20360 tonnes or about 12% of total above ground stocks.
My guess is that these numbers are fairly well known by the world's Central Banks particularly China (PBOC). If in fact China desires to have the world's Reserve Currency, the need to acquire an amount equal to or greater than total US reserves ( Government ant citizens) is a minimum necessary for that to happen. ---I agree that at this time, confiscation is only a remote possibility. At the very least it is too early.

Thanks very much for the article. These are just my thoughts on the subject

Once confiscation was completed, two years later, th... Read More
