Silver of course has also been used as money, but is not as good as gold due to a less stable stock to flow ratio.
Given that the amount of gold that has ever been mined is still is in existence, gold should be used as the denominator to value all other goods, silver included.
I think that looking at a gold /silver ratio is basically pointless.
