>Can A Home Garden Produce Enough Food To Live On? - Mac Slavo - ShtfPlan
Back in 2013 - my first year of retirement - I put my entire summer work into Food Production. It was my experiment to learn if ONE man, working ONLY on a garden (no side jobs) could produce enough food to feed a family of 4.

I was amazed at the amount of food ONE man, working alone on half an acre, can produce. I grew bushels of tomatoes, bushels of bell peppers, bushels of cucumbers, untold pounds of green beans, massive amounts of cabbage, enormous amounts of other vegetables from Celery to Beets to Cantaloupe to watermelons. In general ~ I grew a phenomenal amount of food. I canned 62 quarts of salsa ~ and froze a freezer full of other veggies.

Yes, a home garden CAN produce enough food to live on : but NOT if you have to do ANY other jobs around your house (laundry, shopping, lawn mowing, leaf removing, helping someone move, fixing that roof, changing your car oil, painting the garage, etc-etc). You will only have time for your garden. It's a LOT of work. My advice : don't think totally self-sufficient unless you HAVE to. Think small and get accustomed to growing a variety of foods.

Thank you Mac, for writing this timely (harvest time) article.
