Doug, your article is very depressing to me: a guy who got lucky enough to buy a house and some land and save a few (very few) bucks here at home. There's nothing I can off-shore, no place I could purchase in a Comfortable Country to sit this one out.

My surroundings are deteriorating by unemployment, foreclosures and a general increase in theft. On one side I'm facing a Predatory Government while on the other side I'm facing an increasingly desperate group of hungry-dispossessed people ~ who also may become predatory. I'm counting eating and having a place to sleep as a win for me.

By the way; I see this mess spreading world-wide ~ which brings those Desirable Comfortable Locations into doubt. After the Bush and Obama Destroy-Everything-in-Your-Path Regimes; Americans aren't welcome anywhere. We may as well Butch Up, Bite the Bullet, and make our stand here at home.
