The TauTona mine exists within the West Witts area not so far from Johannesburg in South Africa, near the town of Carletonville.

History of the Tautona (Western Deep No.3 Shaft) Project |
Production at TauTona fell to 409,000 ounces in 2007, down from 474,000 ounces in 2006, due to increased seismic activity. The mine was originally built by the Anglo American Corporationwith its 2km deep main shaft being sunk in 1957, with operations starting in 1962.
