The mine is located in the Vila Nova Greenstone Belt, part of the Guiana Shield that covers the northern part of Brazil, parts of the Guianas and extends northwest into eastern Venezuela. The mine is situated 15 km from the town of Serra do Navio, where a local company operated a manganese mine for more than 40 years until its exhaustion in 1998

History of the Amapari Project |
The Amapari Gold Mine (Amapari) was successfully commissioned in the second half of 2005. Commercial production commenced in January 2006.
