RMS is announcing that it has released version 16.0 of its catastrophe modelling platform, which includes updates to both the RMS Europe Windstorm Clustering Model and the company's terrorism modelling suite: the RMS Probabilistic Terrorism Model, RMS Terrorism Scenario Model, the terrorism target database, and the Industry Loss Curves. Brian Owens, Senior Director, Model Product Management, commented: 'RMS is bringing a rich pipeline of modelling capability to market this year... with version 16.0 we have released more new catastrophe modelling capabilities that address long-standing needs for managing marine risk and U.S. flood risk, as well as tackling the uncertainty around Europe windstorm clustering.' The new RMS Marine Cargo & Specie Model and new RMS USA Flood Hazard Data are also included in the version 16.0 release.

SearchFlow Managing Director Greg Bryce is commenting on HMRC's latest property transaction data, which reveals that the number of residential property transactions increased by 1.5% between April 2016 and May 2016, with the month's seasonally adjusted figure 11.9% lower compared with the same month last year. Bryce notes that the 3-month transaction level is still higher than last year, but cautions: '...uncertainty surrounding the Referendum is setting in and activity levels in June look set to be dampened as buyers and investors are holding off any decision to move until after the Referendum result.'

A new report from Hobsons is revealing that students are increasingly willing to cross national boundaries in search of the best education. There are now 54 countries where more than half the student age population attends university, compared to just 4 twenty years ago, with the trend driven by the rise of a new global middle class fuelled by economic growth in emerging markets and shifting demographics. David Harrington, President of Hobsons has warned though that the trend is not guaranteed to continue, with the education sector also vulnerable to the type of disruption seen in other industries in the digital age.

EDR is excited to be participating in the MBA's inaugural Small Balance Lending Summit in Chicago this week (22-23 June), which aims to support community banks and mortgage lenders looking to get into the game as economic conditions steadily improve post-recession. The Summit will feature sessions and speakers from GSEs, HUDs, investors, mortgage banks, community banks, and others, and will focus on providing key information to lenders interested in entering the market. Young ADIPEC, the annual youth outreach initiative by ADIPEC, has announced it is partnering with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) as part of government efforts to cultivate the next generation of home-grown energy professionals. A first-time cooperation between the two entities, the initiative aims to educate high school students about the wealth and diversity of career opportunities in the energy sector, and encourage them to pursue studies in the fields of science and engineering, while spreading awareness about these specialties. More than 700 students from across the UAE have passed through the programme since its inception in 2013, with a 26% increase in participation this year.

Metro is launching a refreshed digital edition app, responsively designed so that every advertising campaign is delivered to all mobile, tablet and desktop devices. Metro explains that the changes will mean that prospective advertisers can double their audience with one purchase. Print ads will also be available in HTML animated creative format, providing advertisers with additional free access to Metro's 3.1m print readers and 150,000 monthly digital edition users. The release of the refreshed app coincides with Metro's Evening Edition becoming available on phone, as well as tablet.

Zoopla is warning that nearly all of the gains made by the housing market over the past five years would be wiped out if the country votes Leave in the EU Referendum this week. Zoopla says its number-crunching, which is based on Treasury projections, implies that 'most of the gains clawed back since the credit crisis would be wiped out… leaving homeowners with less equity and some in negative equity territory.' The current average house price of just over GBP 297,000 would plunge by over GBP 53,000 due to the combined effect of 'uncertainty, increased unemployment, reduced investment and higher borrowing costs,' Zoopla warns.
