WTM EXPANDS MANAGEMENT TEAM
(Vancouver, August 12, 2008)West Timmins Mining Inc. (TSX: WTM) announced today that the shareholders of the Company approved the re-appointment of the Board of Directors at the Company's recently completed annual general meeting. WTM further announced the appointment of the following individuals to key positions with the Company:
- Mr. Larry Taddei (CA) to the position of Chief Financial Officer
- Dr. Linus Keating (D. Sc., P.Geo.) to the position of Manager, Exploration - Mexico
- Mr. John Toporowski to the position of Manager, Corporate Development
- Mrs. Sue Chipperfield to the position of Executive Assistant
"I am extremely pleased to announce several significant additions to WTM's management team" said Darin Wagner, President and CEO of West Timmins Mining. "Each of our new team members brings with them several years of experience in the mineral exploration and development industry significantly enhancing the Company's competitive position as we drive forward with new discoveries on multiple fronts."
Mr. Taddei is a Chartered Accountant who most recently held the position of CFO with a Vancouver-based gold producer with operations in South America. During his tenure, Mr. Taddei was involved with both debt and equity financings and oversaw the transition of the Company from an explorer to a producer. His appointment to the role of CFO for WTM is effective immediately. Mr. Frank Hallam, WTM's former CFO, will remain actively involved with the Company as a director and officer.
Dr. Keating is a certified professional geologist who brings over 25 years experience in North, Central, and South America and Asia to the Company. Dr. Keating previously served as an Exploration Manager for Kennecott Exploration and as a Principal Geologist for the Rio Tinto group, one of the world's largest mining companies. He is credited with the discovery of the Sandman gold resource in Nevada, and his work was instrumental to the discovery of the Altar copper-gold porphyry system in Argentina. During the last year, Dr. Keating has served the Company by coordinating technical aspects of all projects in Mexico. Dr. Keating has extensive experience in porphyry copper and epithermal gold-silver systems and will manage the Company's exploration activities in Mexico with the support of consulting group Minera Cascabel SA de CV.
Mrs. Chipperfield joins the Company from Gitennes Exploration Inc. where she served in a similar capacity for the last 5 years. Mrs. Chipperfield will be responsible for the management of corporate filings and office administration for the Company.
Mr. Toporowski spent the better part of a decade involved with his family's business of providing specialized engineering, construction and metallurgical services to start up heap leach gold companies. Subsequently, he joined the principals of the 'Breakwater Group' to assist in the promotion of Pecos Resources and Granges Exploration during the 1980's. Since 1990, he has held investor relations positions with a number of successful exploration and development companies including New Canamin (Huckleberry Mine), Callinan Mines (Callinan Mine), Tan Range Exploration; now Tanzanian Royalty Exploration Corp., and New Millennium Metals Corp. (who merged with Platinum Group Metals Ltd.).
Mr. Toporowski will maintain and continue to expand WTM's presence in the retail investor community. He will work to ensure that the value created by management is fully recognized by shareholders and the investment community and reflected in the market capitalization of the Company.
