URACAN
INCREASES STRIKE LENGTH TO 1500 METERS AT DOUBLE S ZONE, NORTH SHORE PROPERTY,
QUEBEC
January 29, 2008
Trading Symbol: (TSX V): URC
HIGHLIGHTS:
-
significant thicknesses and grades in multiple drill holes
- strike length is now over 1,500 meters and remains open down dip and along
strike
- drilling underway for 2008 program; second drill being added
Vancouver, Canada Uracan Resources Ltd. (the Company) is pleased to
announce that it has received additional assay results from the ongoing diamond
drilling program on the Double S Occurrence within the 1075 Km2 North Shore
Uranium Property in Quebec. Mineralization has been extended from the
previously announced 1,000 meter strike length to over 1,500 meters of
strike length defined by diamond drilling.
Significant results from the recent drill program include: 0.020% U3O8 over
65.5 meters in SS-07-57, 0.015% U3O8 over 57.95 meters including 20.25 meters
of 0.026% in SS-07-58, and 0.013% U3O8 over 53.3 meters in SS-07-56.
This mineralization is open along strike to the north and south as well as down
dip. Previously mineralization was thought to narrow to the north, however it
now appears to continue to the north as a series of parallel mineralized zones
which swing further to the west than previously thought away from areas of
outcrop exposure.
Double S Drilling
Results for an additional 4,400 meters of diamond drilling in 16 drill holes
have been received since the previous October 30th news release. The drill
holes were planned to further assess the strike length and down dip potential
of the uranium mineralization seen at surface at the Double S occurrence.
Of particular significance is SS-07-58, which intersected a number of
mineralized zones with grades of individual intervals ranging from 0.015% to
0.034% U3O8 over widths ranging from 5.3 meters to 57.95 meters. These
mineralized zones occur further to the west than previously modeled, indicating
that mineralization to the north is still open, as previous interpretation of
the mineralization had mineralization narrowing to the north. Further drill
results are pending from additional drill holes completed to the northwest of
SS-07-58.
The northeast dip of the mineralization is modeled based on surface mapping of
outcrop exposures and the diamond drill holes completed to date. Generally the
mineralization has a shallow northeast dip, but this dip steepens locally. Modeling
of the mineralized zone at Double S is ongoing.
A summary of selected
mineralized zones is included below:
*SS-07-35* : the interval from 180.5 to 200 m in SS-07-35 was previously
released.
Drill hole location information and a complete listing of assay results will be
posted on the Uracan website : www.uracan.ca
Uracan is also pleased to announce the commencement of diamond drilling on the
North Shore Property for the 2008 program. One drill is currently operating,
with a second drill being mobilized to the property. The drill program will
target extensions to the Double S zone as well as test a number of other
uranium targets which have been defined by geophysics and surface sampling and
mapping.
QA/QC
Samples were shipped by company personnel in sealed containers to Chemex
Laboratories of Val DOr, Quebec for analysis. Chemex is the laboratory
facility used for all assays from the North Shore Property program. Samples are
weighed and catalogued before sample preparation. The samples are crushed to
70% less than 2mm, split and the pulverized to 85% of the sample being less
than 75 m. All samples are assayed using ICP-MS with analysis completed for 47
elements.
A QA/QC program was implemented as part of the sampling procedure for the drill
program. Field duplicates and field blanks were inserted into the sample stream
with at least one blank and one duplicate inserted per group of 40 samples sent
to the laboratory. Uracan does not have a uranium standard to insert into the
sample stream at this time. The laboratory also has an extensive in house QAQC
system as part of their quality control system.
