Brockman Resources Limited (ASX: BRM)
ASX RELEASE 6 AUGUST 2008
PORT HEDLAND BERTH RESERVATION TO BROCKMAN RESOURCES VIA NWIOA ALLOCATION
Emerging Western Australian iron ore company, Brockman Resources Limited (ASX: BRM ? ?Brockman?) has received a significant boost to development plans for the flagship Marillana Iron Ore Project in the Pilbara, after the Western Australian State Government today confirmed the reservation of two new multi-user berths in the Port Hedland inner harbour for the North West Iron Ore Alliance ? of which Brockman is a founding member ? and other potential junior producers.
WA Planning and Infrastructure Minister, the Hon Alannah MacTiernan, today confirmed the allocation as part of a long-term strategic plan for the expansion of Port Hedland inner harbour to cater for the continuing growth and diversification of the region?s iron ore and mineral industries.
The two berths earmarked for the Alliance members and other junior producers subject to certain conditions precedent, would have the capacity for up to 50 million tonnes of iron ore exports per annum, sufficient to cater for the emerging production of its member companies and Brockman Resources.
It is expected that the two berths and associated port infrastructure may be operational as early as 2012, which would coincide with the planned Stage 2 ramp up in production at Marillana of potentially 15 to 25 million tonnes of iron ore per annum in 2012. The ultimate long term capacity is envisaged to come from the Outer Harbour development, which in itself is yet to be approved.
Managing Director of Brockman Resources, Mr Wayne Richards, said the port capacity allocation represented a major breakthrough for the Company in progressing the development of the Marillana Project.
?The capacity allocation in the inner harbour demonstrates the Government?s commitment to the development of a viable and successful junior iron ore industry in the Pilbara, and allows us to plan the next phases of the Marillana project development with much greater certainty,? he said.
Mr Richards said Brockman was exceptionally well placed to meet any funding requirements for the inner harbour expansion following its recent A$112.5 million capital raising.
?With more than $110 million in cash reserves, we are pursuing an aggressive development timetable for Brockman targeting first production by late 2009,? he said.
The Company is continuing intensive drilling and exploration programs aimed at upgrading the current Mineral Resource for the Marillana Project from the current level of 1.1 billion tonnes, which encompasses both Channel Iron Deposit (DSO) and Detrital ore. This high quality resource inventory is expected to underpin a long-term, high margin iron ore export business.
The North West Iron Ore Alliance has already received Expressions of Interest from engineering companies to conduct a detailed Scoping Study for the port development work required for the new berths and associated infrastructure, and the announcement of the appointment of the preferred Project Manager is expected shortly.
