UPDATE
FROM THE FIELD
President Updates Ongoing Rainy
River Drill Program, NW
Ontario
Don Huston, President, Bayfield Ventures Corp. (TSX-V: BYV), is pleased
to provide an update from the field regarding the Company’s ongoing
Phase 1 diamond drill program and geological exploration program that
continues on its Rainy River project in northwestern Ontario.
To date, 10
drill holes have been completed on 2 of Bayfield’s properties, Claim
Blocks “A” & “B”.

The drill
program began in mid August on Claim Block “B”, which is situated
in the eastern half of Richardson
Township adjoining
Rainy River Resources on Bayfield’s west boundary. The drill program is
designed to prove up several geophysical (magnetometer and horizontal loop
EM) targets delineated in this Phase 1 exploration program. The Company
earlier completed an overburden drilling program specifically designed to
test for gold grain counts under the overburden but lying just above the
contact with bedrock. In a lot of the overburden gold sampling, the
overburden was found to be on average at least 30-35 metres thick. Of major
significance to Bayfield is the location of the conductive zones with respect
to structures delineated by geophysics and the large area of high pristine
gold grain counts on Claim Block “B”. The Company is pleased that
sulfides and / or structure have been encountered in all 5 holes drilled to
date on Claim Block “B”. We currently await assay results from
these holes, however with what has been visually seen in the core, Bayfield
has decided to drill 2 - 3 additional holes to test the new found structure
along strike. This drilling will be completed before freeze up.
Bayfield
has now just completed the first drill program on its Claim Block
“A” property, held 50% Bayfield and 50% Gold Range, which is
situated to the immediate southwest of Rainy River Resources gold discovery.
5 drill holes totaling approx. 1,000 metres (about 200 metres per hole) have
now been completed. These holes were also targeted at defined geophysical
targets and coincident gold grain sampling from the previous work program. To
date, the rock types encountered are principally mafic volcanics including
pillowed lavas. Some veining has been encountered in all holes, with some
sulfides evident. The Company’s geologist is now in the process of
analyzing the core and systematically sampling the drill core and readying a
shipment of samples from the Claim Block “A” to the assay
laboratory in Saskatoon, Sask. (TSL Labs)
Progress
to date with the diamond drill program in Rainy River
has been good. However, a good deal of the land included in the Bayfield land
packages is overlain with large areas of swampland. This is proving to be a
challenge in where and how to locate the diamond drill to best intersect
underground geophysical structures now known from the geophysics conducted
last winter. The Company is making preparations to continue the drill program
into the winter months of 2007-2008 when accessibility to all drill sites
would be much easier.
Bayfield Ventures continues to be
very pro-active in pursuing potential new land acquisitions in the heart of
the Rainy River gold camp. Negotiations for very
well located parcels of land to the Rainy River Resources gold discovery are
continuing at this time. The Company believes that the gold discoveries in
the #17 gold zone, the ODM gold zone, and #433 gold zone identified by Rainy
River Resources are very significant in that these zones demonstrate a new
and major gold discovery area for Canada. An announcement of
further land acquisitions is expected in the near future.
