RELEASE
2 JULY 2009
Westgold provides the following progress
update on drilling at the Rover 1 (Cu-Au) deposit, located in the Northern
Territory approximately 80km south west of Tennant Creek.
The 2009 drill programme
is progressing well with two diamond core rigs now operating at Rover 1. A
total of 30 RC (Reverse Circulation) precollars
for 6,698metres and 11 diamond tails for 3662 metres
have been completed to date.
The objectives of the programme are to continue step out drilling of the known
high grade copper and gold zones discovered during the 2008 programme
and to test for new zones elsewhere along the 800 metre magnetic target.
Results for the first six diamond
holes have been received and importantly show significant extensions of
high-grade copper in WGR1D024-1 (new result) and the discovery of a new zone of
IOCG mineralisation to the west in WGR1D018
(previously reported).
WGR1D024-1 105m
@ 1.6% Cu, 0.2g/t Au, 1.6g/t Ag, 0.14% Bi, 0.13% Co from 368m.
including 27m @ 4.8% Cu, 0.6g/t Au, 3.5g/t Ag,
0.02% Bi, 0.34% Co from 429m
WGR1D018 18m
@ 1.2% Cu, 0.7g/t Au, 3.1g/t Ag, 0.15% Bi, 0.15% Co from 536m
including 8m @ 1.6% Cu, 1.2g/t Au, 4.9g/t Ag,
0.23% Bi, 0.19% Co from 542m
The high grade copper mineralisation intersected in WGR1D024-1 is located
approximately 70m vertically above the previously defined high grade copper and
gold zone discovered in 2008 and represents a significant vertical extension to
the known mineralisation.
Additionally, the new western zone
of mineralisation is an important development in the
Rover 1 deposit. This mineralisation is located
approximately 250m west of the known high grade copper and gold zone and
provides another prime focus for the drilling programme.
Accordingly, the second diamond rig
is now drill testing for extensions of this new zone.
Results
of the other drill holes have confirmed mineralisation
although with generally moderate grade Cu-Au mineralisation
around the known high grade copper and gold zone. Drill hole WGR1D014 suggests
local structural complexities occur at the eastern margin of the currently
defined mineralisation. Detailed structural and
geophysical analysis is underway to understand the implications on the local geology
and mineralisation in this more complex area.
Significant results of the 2009
drill programme are listed in Table 2 with hole locations provided in Table 1.
Westgold expects to be in a position to
provide a further update on progress at Rover 1 in the June Quarterly Report
due for release late in July.
