PRESS RELEASE
Start of drilling at the Ecum Secum Gold Mine
Rimouski, November 26, 2007 –
Ressources Appalaches (APP-TSXV) announces the start of a 1,500-metre drilling
campaign on the Ecum Secum property in Nova
Scotia. These boreholes will identify the extensions
of a gold mine that was last worked in the early 1900s.
This first
drill program is aimed at identifying possible extensions of the mine's
gold-bearing veins over a distance of 500 metres and to a
depth of 100 metres.
Shafts dating from the earlier mining have been discovered in the vicinity of
the mine over a distance of one kilometre. The gold veins could also extend
over the same distance.
The mine
comprised several shafts up to 71 metres deep, with tunnels a hundred metres
in length. The total production from the mine is unknown. However, archived
reports indicate a production of at least 1,300 oz of gold at a
grade of 15.6 g/t.
The
mineralization takes the form of native gold (occasionally visible) in
stratiform, folded quartz veins. The main model proposed to account for the
emplacement of these veins is that they represent saddle-reefs.
“The
first boreholes should be completed during December. Given today's mining
exploitation techniques, we are hoping to find grades of at least 15.6
g/t” states Andr
Proulx, the President.
