Vectren 811 landscaping contest winner announced
Bloomington, Ind. - Through a partnership with Bloomington Valley Nursery in Bloomington, Ind., Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) awarded a $5,000 landscape makeover to Vectren customer Tanya Konerman of Bloomington, Ind., for participating in its 811 National Safe Digging Month landscape makeover contest. The contest, which ran from March 3 to May 4, encouraged customers to spread the word about 811 and Call Before You Dig.
To be eligible to win the landscape makeover, contestants had to "like" Bloomington Valley Nursery's Facebook page and enter to win through the page. Contestants had to also live in the Vectren service territory. More than 1,600 entries were received.
"The purpose of the contest was to raise awareness about damage prevention by creating ambassadors among our customers who could share the message of Call Before You Dig," said Mike Roeder, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - North. "Calling 811 is easy, free and can ultimately save a life. We
hope by educating our customers, together, we can keep one another safe."
Hoosiers who are planning to dig in the yard, tear down a building or engage in any other earth-moving activity are reminded to call Indiana 811 at least two full working days in advance. By calling 811, residents can have underground utility lines in the work area located and identified at no cost. Locating underground facilities prior to digging is mandated under Indiana law. If a resident fails to notify Indiana 811, proceeds with an unmarked dig and strikes an underground facility, he or she will be responsible for the damages and costs to repair in addition to fines up to $10,000.
