Willie's main thesis is that the West is failing, though its fiat monetary policies (rejection of true Capitalism), and that the East is laying in the foundation to become the new world's reserve currency. I believe both to be true, but doubt the timeline and even the eventual outcome.

The recent events in Cyprus show the coming collaspe of the EU: the landmark theft of private accounts from banks. Naturally funds will leave EU banks and seek safety elsewhere. But where? Currently those funds seem to be flowing into the US Dollar and stock market, and not gold and silver - yet. Like the sinking of the Titanic -- people climbing to the front of the ship as the stern sinks down -- so is money panicking to the United States. Given our problems, we are still the safetest bet.

But what will the future bring?

As the Titanic eventually sank, so will the United States? Willie expects as much with the East taking over. But I disagree. The East - China, Russia, India - may well be planning to launch a new reserve currency but I doubt they have the philosophical foundation to keep it. We have that with Capitalism, or had it before we gave it up, but the Eastern mind is foreign to that concept. They see that it works and may use it to undermine our stupidity but, once the West has been destroyed, they'll quickly return to their historical tyrannies.

So I agree with Willie up to a point. But I think the West will eventually recover it's heritage of individual freedom -- after experiencing extreme damage -- and wrest control from the lunatics currently at the helm. This Titanic will right itself, pump out the bilge tanks, and limp back into the 21st Century - sadder, but proverbially wiser.
