In general, I would agree with your thesis. However I contend there are a few flaws.

Recognition is impossible. A belief system demands that any and all evidence contrary to the belief MUST be denied, ignored or destroyed. Socialism IS a belief system. The term "should" requires "ability/capacity" which doesn't exist.

Social Security was and is an insurance scam. Scam because it is a Ponzi scheme from the very beginning. The supposed re-investment of the premiums are based upon the absolute requirements of asset value inflation and continued premium payments. Fewer participants contributing reduces the total monthly income and declining investment income will force substantial changes in the monthly settlement checks (actually it is direct deposit for most). Thus comes a needed change in the CPI computations.

I would further contend that there is a vast difference between investors and everyone else in the market.
Investment is a long-term financial commitment. And everything else is speculation or in plain speak, gambling.
Cheap money permits gambling at the big money table. The Fed and Congress play the part of Liz Taylor handing over white diamond earrings to the TBTF gambler.
What large industries that are left in the US are financial, health and government. This is where the tax revenue stream gets its daily fix. DON'T SCREW WITH YOUR CRACK DEALER.

If you don't physically control your assets, your ass don't control squat.
Invest in yourself. And take responsibility for your own ass and assets.

It is time to realize that most everything in this world of modern economics is just insurance. All you need do is ask the question, "Why does this exist?" Programs, laws, military, social security, SNAP, consumer protection, law enforcement, etc. Just insurance for the incompetents. And now we are seeing these quasi-insurance entities failing. Insurance of all types is just protection. How well do you trust those running the protection racket? Are you really protected or did you just hire a janitor to clean up after the fact?

About 50 years ago, I was taught that the mark of real wealth was the ability, willingness and act of self-insuring.
