>Forget Gold: Only Food, Tools and Resourcefulness Will Matter In a Mad Max Scenario - Mac Slavo - ShtfPlan
"It is typically grain or in the case of Japan bags of rice."
And rice is what?

"Food is a dominant asset. Tools, whether they be firearms or plows, become dominant assets in a world where you have to depend on yourself or a small community to survive. Your resourcefulness, such as an ability to put a roof over your head, grow your own food, purify water or preserve your food for winter, will be dominant assets."
Food, water and shelter are always dominant assets. Tools have zero value without the skills to use them productively. What did you learn in college? Skill development is time intensive. How much time you reckon you have left?

"But Mad Max scenarios are survivable for those with the wherewithal to prepare."
Mad Max is fiction and therefore MUST make sense. Reality just is and will be: deal with it.

I'm afraid there is a subculture that thinks PMs will get them through what will be a difficult time. Some think PMs include lead and brass. Sadly they are mistaken. PMs might have some initial barter value, but when the snow is flying and the wolf is at the door, your gold will NOT get me to part with my food. Yes, have a defense plan. Yes, have some gold and/or silver set aside. But these will have their greatest value after you survive the coming test.

Critical survival skills such as large scale gardening and repairing tools will be those most in demand. Imagine the value to a community a teamster would provide even though they are just pushing a cart of potatoes from point A to B and returning with half a hog and the rest firewood. Restoring commerce on a local scale is critical to long term survival and wealth. Local commerce will become regional, then national and international. At that point, PMs will shine.

No banks, no credit cards, no grocery stores, no gas stations, and a landscape devoid of law & order. It’s an outlier to be sure, but one that has been experienced by millions of people throughout history. Worst case scenarios do happen. And when they do, the activities associated with the regular flow of commerce as we understand them today cease completely. Historically, this has h... Lire la suite
