>The Obama Administration's Natural Gas Policy Is Tragically Misguided - Chris Martenson -
Not only is the depletion rate high, but additional wells in the same area of the structure exacerbate the effect. We tend to forget that this natural gas has been known about for decades. Only desperation drives the pursuit for this marginal resource.

Expenses are high and climbing. Fracking is NOT cheap. You need lots of water. Ordinary sand is NOT real usable, so it must be mined and shipped to the well site. Then there is the guar gum imported from mostly India used to thicken the fracking sand/water mix. Has anyone thought about the environmental consequences of increasing the demand for guar beans? What other agricultural products will be displaced that are normally used for human feedstock rather than fracking fluid feedstock?

We still have to factor in the shipping costs for the LNG as well. Remember that these LNG ships only transport fuel in one direction and return empty. These ships don't burn LNG in their engines.

We tend to forget that once a power-plant is moth-balled, it deteriorates quickly. The invested capital is wasted. When we are stuck going back to coal, will the investment capital be available for new plants?

But exporting looks good for political claims on the "balance of payments" issue. Science and the "Law of Unintended Consequences" be damned.
