Why should the thrifty take a 50% haircut when the fundamental problem aka unrepentant debtor is coddled and encouraged under your thesis.

Allow the spendthrift to follow their habit. Save more? They didn't save before, ergo they will not save now.
People don't change; they just get more so and your thesis enables them.

Crazy? No, just foolish idealism seeking an agreeable audience.

Your straw-man arguments at the end also failed to impress me.
