A bit simplistic and grossly incomplete.
#1 The American version of middle class is a new phenomena. Throughout history, the middle class were the merchants and producers. Working class was just that.
#2 You completely disregard the credit fueled buying orgies the middle class engaged in.
#3 Not one mention of the middle class forgetting to save for a rainy day.
#4 I might add that you missed the greatest reason of them all. The middle class voted for those politicians that supported the heist. The middle class supported the NIMBY movements.

Which brings us to:

"We are just waiting for people to WAKE UP?"

Do you presume that they aren't awake? Perhaps they are cognizant and fatalistic. If you are a dependent of the system, it is psychologically easy to trust the system to fix it. Does the employee normally worry about his employers cash flow problems beyond, "Will I get paid?"

Middle class? So far in debt for non-productive consumer goods, schooling, vehicles, real estate, etc., that they are effectively indentured servants of the system. We now return you to the working class.

Free choice demands personal responsibility. The American version of middle class had their chance and blew it.
Opportunity will come knocking again. Early entry into new opportunities can return grossly disproportionate ROIs.
