A very good point made here by frankkarl.

However it is likely that " their entire financial infrastructure" is dependent on what occurs in the future.
Small to medium mining companies are very dependent on guaranteed cash flow to continue to be operating.
Its not necessarily therefore purely about profit, rather the business about even staying in business.
