>Who Are the Champions of the Common Man?  - Lew Rockwell -
The Libertarian non-aggression principle looks real good on the surface just like the ramblings on Socialism. However without threat of force, you can't herd sheep nor defend them.

Homo sapiens is an animal and quite prone to reacting just like an animal to outside stimulus: fight, flight or fright freeze. As an animal, homo sapiens is genetically selected to be "effort efficient" in gathering and consuming resources. That is why laws against all sorts of theft were written and enforced to a major extent. Effort efficiency is why the indolent love socialism. Everyone desires maximum returns with least effort and risk.

Ergo, property rights demand use of force to defend. "Effort efficiency" in defense of property rights demands aggression against the indolent or face 24/7 security issues.

Logical reasoning won't work against the natural propensity to engage in effort efficiency. Only force and the threat of force works.

I have no problems with the Rothbardian Libertarians. Do as you will, but cut the BS. I always bet on mankind's animal nature. And the Rothbardians can thank the PTB for defending fools and idiots.

I would argue that the Randians are closer to a functional system in principle.

I'll join Jim C. on rolling back government. Simple is usually easy to get and keep working. Complexity never works efficiently if it works at all. Worse, it is extremely costly for questionable benefit. But how much government? I think 1 employee per 100 civilians might be a little much. I mean how many teachers are there per 100 citizens? How many churches, car dealerships or liquor stores? How many farmers, loggers or miners? Government is a consumer of resources and produces nothing. It was intended as a service industry but seized the managerial function and prove daily that they are failures at cost-containment ergo complete failure as managers.

Début de l'article :The media’s caricature of libertarians is a pendulum that swings from one extreme to another. One minute we’re grasping plutocrats, championing the privileged, and the next minute we’re losers living in our parents’ basements. Not long ago, Michael Lind adopted the first of these, professing to find it risible that a libertarian might pose as the champion of the common man. Why, libertarians favor the super rich! Hence, according to Lind, the idea of “libertarian populism” is absurd. Now I agree... Lire la suite
