To be physically correct, the beach ball analogy here might be a bit misplaced. If one were to go strictly by the physics of it, a very deeply submerged beach ball will take much longer to reach the surface than a beach ball submerged in shallow water. In addition, the upwards force acting on a deeply submerged beach ball is smaller than on one submerged in shallow water, meaning that it will be moving upwards slowly at first, only to reach its maximum speed close to the surface. The reason for this is that at greater depths, the force of the surrounding water on the ball will cause it to contract, decreasing its volume, and hence decreasing its upward force. Ask any scuba diver, this is common knowledge if you use an inflatable jacket under water.
