In 1991 Conwest Exploration Company Limited acquired the property and granted an option to Canadian Zinc Corporation (then known as San Andreas Resources Corporation) (the “Company”) to acquire a 60% interest in the property. In 1996 the Company successfully completed the negotiation of The Prairie Creek Development Co-operation Agreement with Nahanni Butte Dene Band. |

The Prairie Creek mine (the "Project") is located in the south Mackenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories, Canada, at 61° 33' north latitude and 124° 48' west longitude. The mine site is situated on Prairie Creek about 43 km upstream from its confluence with the South Nahanni River.

Mineralization was discovered at Prairie Creek in 1928 with limited work conducted on the property until 1966. Cadillac Explorations Ltd ("Cadillac") acquired the property in 1966 and, during 1966 to 1969, explored the mineralized zones now known as Zones 3, 7 and 8 through bulldozer trenching and exploratory cross-cuts

The Project is located in the southern portion of the Mackenzie Mountains which are underlain by Lower Paleozoic carbonates of the Mackenzie shelf.
