CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $323.3 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had profit of 19 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 9 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 23 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $5.4 billion in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.58 billion.
Suncor Energy shares have fallen almost 4 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $31.40, a climb of 18 percent in the last 12 months.
