AVIVA WELCOMES State
government SUPPORT FOR critical 330Kv transmission line
Integrated energy developer Aviva Corporation Limited
(ASX:AVA, BSE:AVIVA) today welcomed the State Government’s announcement
to support construction of Stage 1 of the 330kV transmission line from Perth
to Geraldton.
Aviva CEO Lindsay Reed said the transmission line was
of critical importance for the future development of the Mid West region.
Energy is a key requirement for many of the major
resource projects planned in the region and for the deep water port at Oakajee,
he said.
Aviva and global power company
AES Corporation are jointly developing the Coolimba Power Project, a 400-450MW
base load coal-fired power station near Eneabba in the Mid West, with an
additional 360MW of gas-fired generation.
A formal Government review of the power line proposed
that the line initially extend from Pinjar to Eneabba to encourage progress at six
prospective wind farms and a major new power station. A condition of Government
funding for the project will be adequate progress of proposed projects that
rely on access to the network.
Mr Reed said the construction of the 330kV line
between Perth and
Eneabba will also greatly enhance power supply security for all customers in
the Mid West and the SWIS.
Today’s announcement gives the assurance needed
to progress planning and funding activities to have Coolimba supplying much
needed power to the WA energy grid by 2014.
Mr Reed said the timely provision of transmission
infrastructure was fundamental to new energy generation being developed in WA,
within a competitive power generation sector, involving private sector
projects.
