Results for First Six Holes of Reverse Circulation Drilling on the West Zone of Rome's Don Luis Prop

Publié le 25 mai 2011

Published : May 25, 2011

SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 24, 2011) - Rome Resources Ltd. (News - Market indicators) (FRANKFURT:33R) is pleased to announce gold and silver grades encountered in the first six reverse circulation (RC) holes on the West Zone of the Don Luis Greisen-Porphyry Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property, Sonora, Mexico. This property is about 45 km north-northeast of Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora. The West Zone has major tonnage potential because it is represented by an anomalous zone more than 500 meters in diameter and more than 400 meters deep. The target is a large open-pit mine for low grade silver, gold and tungsten. The objective of the drilling program is to determine grades of silver, gold, tungsten, molybdenum and lead in this zone. Silver and gold grades are reported here. Tungsten, molybdenum and lead, analyzed by in-house X-Ray fluorescence, occur in important but not formally reportable, quantities. The program is ongoing.

Silver and gold grades, detailed in the Appendix, are calculated for the six RC holes totaling 580.5 meters of which, due to minor sample loss, only 573.0 meters were assayed. Recovery, also reported in the Appendix, is poor due to the difficult ground conditions; the impact of this on the assay grades is not known. Gold and silver analyses were done by Pioneer Laboratories Inc. of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. In summary (see Tables A1 and A2 in the Appendix for details):

  1. Silver (Table A1), using a cutoff of 6 grams per tonne (gpt), yielded 342 meters averaging 12.3 gpt; the maximum value encountered was 55 gpt. Good intersections include holes DLS11RC001 and 003 that intersected 63.0 meters of 15.0 gpt and 81.0 meters of 12.9 gpt silver, respectively.
  2. Gold (Table A2), using a cutoff of 0.05 gpt, yielded 223.5 meters averaging 0.174 gpt. The maximum value encountered was 6.12 gpt. Hole DLS11RC004 intersected 43.5 meters of 0.278 gpt gold.

All mineralization is in a highly oxidized cap-rock of intensely muscovite altered porphyry or greisen. Consequently, the mineralization is: (i) in rock with a low "work index", and (ii) the gold and silver appear to be amenable to bulk heap leaching. Silver appears to be concentrated in manganese rich horizons, the distribution of which is being evaluated. Gold is associated with locally significant quantities of quartz. Because we have just started our RC drilling program, mineralization is open in all directions and at depth.
