New Contract Gives Constellation 5,900 Public Sector Accounts in Pennsylvania
BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced it has signed a three-year agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide competitive electricity supply to 185 more commonwealth customers, bringing to 5,900 the total number of public sector accounts Constellation serves in Pennsylvania.
Constellation Energy began supplying energy to the 185 new customers throughout the state on Aug. 1, pursuant to a competitively bid power purchase contract with the state's Department of General Services seeking the "best value" to help government entities control energy costs.
"This contract expansion represents a vote of confidence for the service and competitive energy supply Constellation has provided thousands of public sector customers in Pennsylvania since 2004," said Louis Hutchinson, Constellation Energy's senior vice president, Public Sector. "We look forward to continuing to help the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania control energy costs."
Colleges, local governments and state agencies are among the customers served by Constellation Energy. They include the Department of Transportation, Department of Public Works, the city of Lancaster, Berks County Convention Center and West Chester University.
Constellation Energy serves more than 150 federal agency and institutional customer accounts with electricity and natural gas supply, including more than 375,000 renewable energy credits, approximately 1.7 BCF (billion cubic feet) of natural gas and approximately 6.9 million MWh of electricity to the U.S. Capitol, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Institution, FBI and Federal Reserve, among many others.
In addition, Constellation Energy is a federally approved provider of demand response services for both military and civilian government agencies, enabling eligible federal sites to earn money by shedding load during times of peak energy demand such as the high temperatures throughout much of the nation in recent weeks.
