Astorius Resources Commences Geophysical Survey on its Babine Lake Copper-Gold Property, BC
|
Astorius Resources Ltd. (ASQ - TSX Venture) ("Astorius") is pleased to announce that Peter E. Walcott and Associates has commenced an IP geophysical survey of the Babine Lake copper-gold property. The property is located approximately 85 kilometres northeast of the community of Smithers in the Prolific Babine Porphyry Copper/Gold Belt in Central British Columbia.
The IP survey - which is expected to be finished before the end of this month - will consist of twenty four line kilometres of coverage. The objective of the IP/resistivity survey is to following up on targets discovered by the Heliborne Magnetic Survey completed by Astorius in 2011. The survey will help Astorius's geologists to define potential targets for porphyry copper-gold (Cu-Au) mineralization. Cu-Au mineralization in the Babine area is known to be structurally controlled and to occur in magnetic high margins of alkalic intrusive bodies.
Over the past three years Astorius has been accumulating claims in this region and is currently the largest mineral claim holder in the Babine camp. It holds a total of 105 claims which have a total area of approximately 39,023.41 hectares (approximately 96,428.94 acres). The claims surround the historic Bell and Granisle porphyry copper-gold mines owned by Glencore Canada Corporation.
The Bell Porphyry Copper-Gold Mine operated from 1977 to 1992 producing 304,795,539 Kg. of copper, 12,885,964 grams of gold and 38,319,730 grams of silver from 77,146,088 tonnes of ore.
The Granisle Porphyry Copper-Gold Mine operated from 1966 to 1982 producing 214,299,455 kilograms of copper, 6,832,716 grams of gold and 69,752,525 grams of silver from 52,321,517 tonnes of ore.
The Company will use the data from the Heliborne Magnetic Survey done in 2011, and the new ground IP survey, to define detailed geophysical targets prior to diamond drilling in the 2014 season.
