ASX AND MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT
18 September 2007
AVIVA CORPORATION
BOOSTS EXECUTIVE TEAM
Aviva
Corporation Limited (ASX:AVA), an integrated energy company, today took a further
step toward being a major energy supplier to the WA market, with the appointment
of Mr Richard Harris to its executive team.
Mr Harris will
play a key role in the development of Aviva’s exciting baseload power
project in the Mid West region of WA, and joins Aviva as General Manager
Development.
Mr Harris has nearly 30
years experience in corporate affairs and advisory positions in both the
private and public sector. He has extensive experience in the WA resources and
energy industries and has reported directly to senior levels of the Government
on policy, reform, and project approvals. He was a Director of the Office of
Energy and held senior positions in the Major Project Department.
Most recently Mr Harris
was WA Director of ERM Power and Newgen Power where he was responsible for
approvals, licensing off-take agreements and external affairs. He was project
director for the 330MW Neerabup peaking development due to commence operation
in 2009. He also provided strategic advice on the 320MW Newgen Kwinana combined
cycle baseload development now being constructed.
“Mr Harris
is eminently qualified to progress the approval and development of a baseload
power station in the Mid West. He has first hand experience in the new WA power
market as a market participant, and was instrumental in navigating the first
baseload and peaking plants through the new regulatory framework. His skills
and experience provide a great fit for Aviva at this stage in its growth
strategy,” Mr Reed said.
The
centrepiece of Aviva’s strategy is a 2x200MW baseload power station in
the Mid West region. Fuel for the project will be sourced from the Central West
coal deposit near Eneabba.
“This is
a $1 billion project which will utilise the lowest cost fuel for baseload power
generation in WA and will be a key to unlocking the economic potential of the
Mid West,” Mr Reed said.
Mr Reed said
the appointment of Mr Harris follows the appointment of Mr Mark Chatfield to the Aviva executive team in May. He
said the company will make further senior management appointments as the
project progresses.
“With key
management in place, we are now focussed on taking the baseload power
development to financial close by the end of 2008,” Mr Reed said.

ABOUT AVIVA
Aviva
is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with its head office in Perth. The company is
growing a portfolio of energy assets. Aviva’s most advanced asset is the
Central West project in Western
Australia.
The
Central West project is ideally located in the northern half of the SWIS power
grid to take advantage of demand growth both in the SWIS and from new resource
projects in the Mid West Region. The location has the advantage of low cost
fuel, available water, adjacent infrastructure, existing mining lease and
freehold land. Aviva is studying the feasibility of a 400MW baseload power
station in the Mid West.
Aviva
is earning a 90% interest in the Mmamantswe project in Botswana where it is drilling a target
of 600Mt of coal. The project is well positioned, being on the South African
border and adjacent to key infrastructure including, highway, railway, and high
voltage transmission lines.
